Wedding invitation wording: 30 messages to copy
· 5 min read
The right words make guests feel personally called, whether they are your grandmother's sister or your college friends. Here is how an Indian wedding invitation is put together, and 30 messages you can copy as they are or change to sound like your family.

How a wedding invitation is put together
Most Indian wedding cards follow the same order, even when the words are modern. Guests read from the top, so the most important lines come first.
- The blessing. A sacred symbol or a line such as Shri Ganeshaya Namah, Bismillah or a verse, if your family uses one.
- Who is inviting. Usually the parents or grandparents, sometimes the couple.
- The invitation line. "Request the pleasure of your company" or "cordially invite you".
- The couple's names, often with their parents' names beneath.
- Date, time and venue of the main ceremony, and the muhurat if there is one.
- Each function: haldi, mehendi, sangeet, wedding and reception, with their own times and places.
- RSVP and contact: who to call, and the date to reply by.
- A closing line from the family, such as "With best compliments from".
Traditional wedding invitation wording
Formal wording suits a card that elders will read first. Change the names and keep the rhythm.
Classic, from the parents
With the blessings of the Almighty, Mrs. and Mr. Ramesh Sharma request the pleasure of your company at the wedding of their daughter Ananya with Rohan, son of Mrs. and Mr. Vikram Mehta, on Sunday, 14 February 2027, at 7 in the evening, at The Leela Palace, Jaipur.
With grandparents
With the blessings of Smt. Kamla Devi and Late Shri Hari Prasad Sharma, Mrs. and Mr. Ramesh Sharma cordially invite you to grace the auspicious occasion of the marriage of their son Aarav with Meera.
Muhurat wording
Your gracious presence is requested at the sacred union of Aarav and Meera. Shubh muhurat: 9.41 pm on Saturday, 20 November 2027. Your blessings will make the day complete.
Both families
The Iyer and Kapoor families joyfully invite you to celebrate the wedding of Kavya and Arjun as two families become one.
Formal reception
Mrs. and Mr. Sunil Patel request the honour of your presence at the reception celebrating the marriage of their son Dev with Nisha, on Monday, 15 February 2027, from 7.30 pm, at the Grand Hyatt, Mumbai.
Wording when the couple invites
More couples now send the invitation themselves, especially to friends. These keep the warmth without the formality.

Modern
We're getting married! Meera and Aarav would love you to be there as we begin forever, on 20 November 2027 in Udaipur.
For friends
After 7 years, 3 cities and countless chai breaks, we are finally doing it. Join Kavya and Arjun for the wedding of the year.
Small wedding
We are keeping it small and close. It would mean the world to us if you could be there when Nisha and Dev say their vows.

Tips before you send
- Write names the way the family writes them, including Shri, Smt. or Late where they are used.
- Give the day as well as the date: "Sunday, 14 February 2027" avoids mistakes.
- Put the muhurat time and the guests' arrival time separately if they differ.
- Add a dress code for each function so guests can plan their outfits.
- Let someone outside the family read it once for spelling and dates.
- If elders prefer Hindi or your regional language, use a two-language card. Shubh can set the card in two languages side by side.
