When to send a save the date in India
There is no fixed rule, and many Indian families skip the save the date altogether. As a rough guide:
- Wedding in your own city: two to three months before, or skip it and send the invitation six to eight weeks ahead.
- Guests travelling within India: three to four months before, so they can plan leave, book trains as soon as booking opens and find flights at good fares.
- Destination wedding: four to six months before, so guests can plan leave and travel.
- Guests coming from abroad: six months or more, since visas and leave take time.
- Wedding season dates (winter and auspicious months): send earlier, because guests may have other weddings to fit in.
Send a save the date only to guests you are sure to invite. Anyone who receives one will expect the invitation.
What to put on a save the date
- The couple's names, and the families' names if elders will read it.
- The date, or the range of dates for a multi-day wedding.
- The city or destination. The exact venue can wait.
- "Invitation to follow", so guests know more is coming.
- A photo of the couple, if you like.
Sending your save the date with Shubh
On Shubh you can make a save the date free and share it as a WhatsApp link that opens in the phone's browser, with no app or sign-in for guests. Pick a painted theme, add your photo, and write it in English, Hindi or another Indian language, or two side by side.
- Import guests from your phone contacts or an Excel sheet, and send each one a personal link that greets them by name.
- See who has opened it, so you know who still needs a call.
- If a detail changes, edit it and the same link updates.
- A save the date video for WhatsApp Status and Instagram Reels comes with the Celebration and Grand packages. See pricing.
