Wedding RSVP message: 25 lines, reminders and a guest count that works

· 5 min read

Every Indian wedding has the same worry: how many people are actually coming? A clear RSVP line and one or two gentle reminders answer it without offending anyone. Here are lines for the card, WhatsApp messages and reminders to copy, and a simple way to count guests for each function.

RSVP lines for the wedding card

These sit at the bottom of the card or under each function. Keep them short and give a date to reply by.

  • Formal

Kindly RSVP by 25 January 2027 so that we may welcome you properly.
  • Warm

Please let us know by 25 January whether you can join us. Your presence means the world to us.
  • Per function

Kindly tell us which functions you will attend and how many of your family are coming.
  • With a contact

RSVP: Rahul Sharma, +91 98xxx xxxxx, or tap RSVP in the invitation link.
  • Digital invitation

Tap RSVP for each function you can attend. It takes ten seconds and helps us plan the food and seating.
  • Stay and travel

Please reply by 20 January and tell us if you need a room or a pickup from the station.
  • Gentle

Even if you cannot come, please let us know and send your blessings.

How to ask guests to RSVP on WhatsApp

The message above your invitation link is where most guests decide to reply. Name the guest, say why you are asking, and make it easy.

  • Namaste Mehta ji! Ananya and Rohan's wedding invitation is in this link. Please tap RSVP and tell us who from your family is coming, so we can arrange everything for you.
  • Dear Priya, we are so happy to invite you to our wedding! When you open the link, please answer for each function: haldi, sangeet and the wedding.
  • Chacha ji, pranam. We are planning the rooms and the bus from the station. Could you tell us by Sunday how many of you will come?
  • Hi everyone! Quick request from the bride's side: please RSVP in the invitation by 25 January. The caterer needs final numbers.
  • Bhaiya, please confirm for Bhabhi and the kids too. We want to keep seats together for all of you.
  • Dear Sir, it would be an honour to have you at my wedding on 14 February. I would be grateful if you could let me know whether you can attend.

RSVP reminder messages

Most families need one reminder about ten days before the first function, and a last one a few days later. Be light and thankful, never sharp.

  • First reminder

Hello Sunita aunty! Just a gentle reminder to RSVP for Aarav's wedding when you get a moment. The link is above. Thank you!
  • Friendly

Ten days to go! If you haven't replied yet, please tap RSVP in the invitation. We'd love to know you're coming.
  • For the caterer

We are giving final numbers to the caterer on Friday. Please let us know by Thursday which functions you will attend.
  • For elders

Pranam Mama ji. We are making arrangements for everyone's stay. Please tell us whenever convenient if you and Mami ji will be coming.
  • Last reminder

Last call for RSVPs! Please reply today, even if you can't make it, so we can plan properly.
  • Change of plan

Plans changed? No problem at all. Just open the same link and update your reply.

What does RSVP mean on a wedding card?

RSVP comes from the French "répondez s'il vous plaît", which means "please reply". On a wedding card it asks you to tell the hosts whether you will come, and usually how many people.

In many Indian families nobody used to reply: relatives simply came, and the hosts cooked for extra. That is changing. Venues charge per plate, rooms are booked in advance and weddings have four or five functions, so hosts need real numbers. A polite RSVP request is now normal, even from traditional families.

  • For guests: reply by the date given, for each function, and say how many adults and children are coming.
  • If you can't come: still reply, and send your blessings or a call to the family.
  • Don't bring extra people who were not invited without asking the hosts first.

How to count guests for each function

An Indian wedding is really several events, each with its own guest list. Count them separately.

  1. Make one list with a column for each function. Close family might be at all five; colleagues only at the reception.
  2. Count adults and children separately. Children often eat less and some venues price them differently.
  3. Treat "not sure" as half. It is a rough rule many planners use; adjust it for your own family.
  4. Add a margin for walk-ins: the driver, an uncle's neighbour, the pandit's helper. Many families keep 5 to 10 percent extra.
  5. Call the last few elders yourself. Some will never tap a link but will happily answer a phone call.
  6. Give final numbers to the caterer and venue on the day they ask, and keep the list for room and transport planning.
  • Per-function line

Haldi: family only. Sangeet and wedding: you and your family. Reception: all are welcome.
  • Children

Please tell us how many adults and children are coming, so we can plan the food and seating.
  • Limited seats

As seats at the venue are limited, this invitation is for the two of you. Thank you for understanding.

Replying to an RSVP

When a guest replies, a short thank-you keeps the warmth going.

  • Thank you so much for confirming! We can't wait to see all four of you at the sangeet.
  • We'll miss you, Neha, but thank you for letting us know. We'll send you lots of photos!
  • Wonderful! Your room at the hotel is booked from 13 to 15 February. Details are in the invitation.

Collect RSVPs on Shubh

On a Shubh invitation, guests open the link from WhatsApp in their phone's browser, with no app and no sign-in, and tap RSVP. For each function they answer coming, not sure or can't come, and how many adults and children. You see every reply and the head count for each function in one place.

You can invite a guest only to some functions, send a personal link to each guest with the Send button, and use the reminder plan's ready-made WhatsApp messages. If the time or venue changes, the same link updates. One function is free to make and share; see pricing for more functions. Browse wedding invitation designs to start.
